What is BIPOC of Publishing in Canada?

BIPOC of Publishing in Canada is a non-profit collective for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour professionals currently working in the Canadian book publishing industry. From assistants, agents, editors, marketing and publicity professionals, rights people, operations staff, and many more, we represent the emerging and established professionals in this industry.

If you identify as a BIPOC professional currently working in the Canadian book publishing industry, please contact us through our General Inquiries form (and select “Membership” as the Topic) so we can be in touch with next steps.

I am a publishing hopeful. How do I join the collective?

If you are a BIPOC individual currently not working in the Canadian book publishing industry (student or working in a different industry or neither), please contact us through our General Inquiries form (and select “Membership” as the Topic) and stay tuned on our future and on-going programming.

We host events and opportunities all year, including our Mentorship Program, aimed at educating and helping you both learn about and enter the industry.

I am an author, how do I join the collective?

BIPOC of Publishing in Canada is a collective aimed at industry professionals working within publishing behind-the-scenes, such as editors, publicists, agents, production, etc. While we love and champion BIPOC authors, we are not currently equipped to provide support to writers.

Check out organizations such as Diaspora Dialogues and The FOLD, who regularly hold programming aimed at writers.

Do you offer volunteer opportunities?

At this time we do not offer volunteer opportunities, but as the collective grows, we may need a helping hand in the future. We recommend following us on social media to be the first to hear about upcoming opportunities. Thank you for thinking of us!
